Saint-Vincent Center Haiti
Photographic Assignment
This photographic assignment was conducted at the Saint-Vincent Center in Haiti.
Avril 2019
Saint Vincent Center, Port-au-Prince,(Haiti)
In 2016, I carried out a photographic mission at the Saint Vincent Center for children with disabilities, in Port-au-Prince. At the time located on Rue de l’Enterrement, this emblematic center has offered specialized education since 1945 to children who are deaf, blind, autistic, or with reduced mobility.
Through this commission, I documented the children’s daily lives: their learning in Braille, sign language, their moments of play, care, and resilience. These images capture dignity, strength, and joy in a context of extreme vulnerability.
Now relocated to Santo 17, the Center welcomes over 200 children and provides comprehensive care: education, healthcare, physical rehabilitation, and an orthopedic workshop. In May 2024, the shelter suffered an armed attack, revealing the ongoing vulnerability of these vital living spaces.
This photographic work is part of my field archives and reflects my ongoing commitment to documenting dignity within contexts of struggle and transformation.
